Bruleed French Toast

 Ingredients

  • 1 french baguette
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup half and half
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • orange zest from one orange
  • 1/2 tablespoon orange juice
  • butter
  • sugar

Directions

  1. Cut the baguette into slices 1-inch by 4-inches.
  2. Mix egg yolks, eggs, half and half, vanilla, orange zest, and orange juice in a bowl.
  3. In a deep dish- place slices of bread and pour egg mixture over top.
  4. Place in fridge for 30 minutes, pull out and flip bread, and place back in fridge for another thirty minutes. 
  5. Heat a pan (medium high heat) and melt a tablespoon of butter. Place bread and flip after a few minutes until dark golden brown.
  6. Sprink sugar on one side of the bread and, with a kitchen torch, melt the sugar. OR place in oven on a baking sheet on the high broil setting for about 30 seconds to a minute.
